Your First Supplement Order: A Pre-Purchase Checklist

Twelve checks, in order. The first three are about safety, the middle four about value, and the last five about getting a usable answer from your purchase.

  6. The point of all this

Safety first: three checks

  1. Read the full ingredient panel, not the front of the jar.
  2. Check interactions against any prescription you take — your pharmacist is the fastest route. See our interactions guide.
  3. Confirm it suits your situation: age, existing conditions, upcoming surgery, pregnancy in the household is not relevant here but medication certainly is.

Value: four checks

  1. Servings per container and therefore days of supply.
  2. Cost per day, not sticker price.
  3. Extract versus raw powder, and any standardisation stated.
  4. Named amounts rather than a proprietary blend total.

Purchase terms: two checks

  1. One-time purchase or auto-ship? Verify on the checkout page.
  2. Guarantee length, opened-product eligibility and return shipping — see the guarantee guide.

Getting a usable answer: three checks

  1. Buy enough to complete a real trial. For botanical formulas that is 8 to 12 weeks.
  2. Log a baseline week before your first serving, using two or three countable markers.
  3. Put the evaluation date in your calendar and do not change three things at once in the meantime.

On arrival

  • Check the expiry date and lot number, and photograph the label
  • Store as directed — gummies in particular do badly in heat and humidity
  • Save the order confirmation email with the order number
  • Note the guarantee deadline in your calendar the same day

The point of all this

Twelve checks sounds like a lot for a jar of gummies. It takes about fifteen minutes once, and it is the difference between a purchase that teaches you something and one that leaves you no wiser three months later.

The method in setting realistic goals covers the trial design in more detail.
